About The PDF Files, and printing them…

The PDF files are formatted to be printed on US Letter sized paper, despite the fact that the end product is an ISO A5 sheet. Unfortunately for us, ISO sized paper stock is not readily available in small quantities, so for the purposes of prototyping, we decided to go with US Letter. Eventually, we will also make available PDF’s formatted for A5 sheets, but we just don’t trust the registration of our printers enough at this point. Once the A5 format is available, you may find that you can two-up on an A4 sheet, if you live in an area where that size in commonly sold.

In the meantime, we apologize for the waste of paper and the additional effort required.

All the pages we produce are double-sided, with the exception of No. 1000 (the A5 Blank page), so you will want to review your printer’s requirements for double-sided printing before committing a large batch. For our own prototyping, we have been using an Epson Stylus C120 with satisfactory results. Make sure your printer driver isn’t trying to shrink the files to fit your printable area. Print these files at 100% size. The odd numbered pages correspond to the right side facing page in a spread, and the even numbered pages the left side facing page, or what would be the “back” of the right side pages.

You will see in the files that all non-essential items are printed in Non-Photo Blue, so that they will not show up easily during reproduction, if you should find the need to make copies of your pages. You will, of course, need a hole punch that matches your binder.

All PDF files will be made available under the Creative Commons BY-NC-ND License, also known as the Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works License. This means you are free to re-distribute the files and print as many pages as you like, but you cannot use the files for commercial purposes (that is to say, no selling pages you print, or the files themselves, among other things), and you cannot make derivative works.
